AmeriCorps VISTA

Keep Charlotte Beautiful (KCB), an Environmental Conservation Organization in Charlotte County Florida, affiliated with Keep America Beautiful (KAB), is partnering with Wintergarden Presbyterian Church to hire an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA). The position is paid through a grant secured by KCB for a one-year period.

This is a full time position at the Wintergarden campus for a person with a college degree, 18 years of age or older. AmeriCorps VISTA program benefits apply.

Based on its vision to reduce food insecurity in Charlotte County, Wintergarden has established a community garden, food forest and food pantry. We are looking for a person who is a self-starter with the energy and drive necessary to be the catalyst for change to help eradicate hunger in our community. The VISTA member would take charge, under the mentorship of Wintergarden to promote and develop this multi-functional venture.

Key Responsibilities

1. Establish community partnerships through personal interaction and written communication utilizing local and social media for:

a. acquiring goods, supplies and labor at reasonable or no-costs
b. locating and applying for financial grants
c. creating advertisement of services provided
d. establishing and planning educational events to empower people to gain independence from food insecurity
e. developing a strategy for a sustainable community volunteer base

2. Collect, format and report data, as needed or required under provided time constraints

3. Research and apply for non-profit status
